Paul J. Smit, partner, graduated from Calvin College in Grand Rapids, Michigan, in May 1993 with a Bachelors Degree in Accounting. After graduating in May 1993, he passed the CPA exam in November 1993. He spent nearly 9 years working for two major public accounting firms before starting his own professional services firm in January 2002.

The first two years were spent working for Pandolfi, Topolski, Weiss Ltd. (PTW) in Oak Brook, Illinois, rated during 2000 and 2001 by Crain’s Chicago Business as one of Chicago’s largest accounting firms. At PTW, Paul specialized in auditing not-for-profit and governmental organizations, but also spent a significant portion of his time providing individual and corporate tax planning and compliance services and accounting services to partnerships, small businesses, and large corporations.

Paul spent the next 7 years working for KPMG LLP, a “Big 4” professional services firm and the third largest accounting firm in the United States. At KPMG, Paul spent his time in the audit practice, where he specialized in providing accounting, auditing, and consulting services to for-profit and not-for-profit companies. While at KPMG he also obtained a wide variety of experience in other areas of professional services such as business process redesign, compliance services, and audits of health care organizations and for-profit business enterprises as well.

Seeking to provide the same high quality and value added services to individuals and entities as he had in Oak Brook and Chicago through major accounting firms to the local market of small businesses, not-for-profit organizations, partnerships and individuals, Paul decided to start his own professional services firm. Paul now seeks to provide these individuals and entities with high quality and value added services in the following areas:

Monthly and quarterly financial reporting and financial statement analysis
Computer systems consulting (hardware and software selection, installation, and implementation; hardware and software maintenance)
Tax planning and preparation

Paul is a member of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) and the Illinois Certified Public Accountant Society (Illinois CPA Society). He is licensed as a public accountant in the State of Illinois. He is also a Certified Quickbooks® ProAdvisor and a member of the Quickbooks® Professional Advisors Program. He has also been selected by Intuit to be a Beta Tester for pre-releases of new versions of Quickbooks®, such as Quickbooks® Pro 2002.
